The Federal Government has announced $100M fund to help communities save energy and bills
The Federal Government has announced its collaboration with local councils to deliver a new $100 million Community Energy Upgrades Fund to support local communities through the implementation of energy-efficient technologies that will unlock financial savings in the middle and long run.
The allocated funding will support energy-saving improvements for community facilities nationwide, including the replacement of energy-intensive heating systems in council pools with heat pumps, as well as the implementation of energy-efficient lighting and battery storage at sporting fields, libraries, and community centers.
The implementation of this initiative holds immense promise, as it possesses the ability to unleash more than $200 million in energy enhancements that will result in substantial financial gains for community facilities such as swimming pools, sports clubs, and community centers. By prioritising energy optimisation, this fund will support local councils in the installation of efficient systems, reducing energy expenses and ultimately contributing to reducing carbon emissions.
This initiative complements the Federal Government’s $1.6 billion Energy Savings Package delivered in the 2023-24 Budget.
